I have been an enthusiast and owner of many Mazda MX-5 sports cars over the last 13 years, and if I had a garage big enough, I would have kept them all.
I share my passion for the Mazda MX-5 with a large number of like-minded individuals in the Mazda MX-5 Club. The club has just celebrated its 30th anniversary, which also happens to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the release of the MX-5. This club has been around as long as the car.
On the social side, we have various events each month. Typically social events are held on Sundays, with some on Saturdays and some mid-week, finding the best MX-5 roads and ending up somewhere for a picnic or lunch at a restaurant, and it’s here where we chat and compare notes about the cars.
On the motorsport side, we have an annual championship of sprint events (cars against the clock rather than door handle to door handle racing), held at the major motorsport tracks. You don't have to be the fastest driver to enjoy a day of motorsport ton the track. All you need to bring along is your enthusiasm and a desire to get the most from your car and yourself.
Lockdown restrictions have curtailed a lot of club activity, but I look forward to getting back to it soon. All I can say is, long live the roadster.
