Due to a situation I found myself in recently, someone suggested looking at things a bit differently. It was an interesting recommendation. It involves thinking about how and what I could do in the circumstances such that I can come out of it with a positive return on my investment of time.
Without going into the details of what it is, let me explain by saying that I was reacting to the situation. I was annoyed and offended to be exact. So I wanted to react to the circumstances I was dealt. But I was reminded that there are many variables at play.
The people involved have their own agendas. It likely not about me but about what they either feel or problems they need to deal with. I need to remember this a lot more often in life and things will not bother me as much.
There could be a silver lining in this circumstance. Just like COVID - there could be a better outcome on the other side of all the things we are going through right now. I just need to focus on identifying what it is and remind myself of that silver lining.
Due to what happened, I forced my mind to think about the worst thing that could happen. In reality, things are never as bad as they appear at first. Especially on deeper inspection. So I felt a calm go over me once I came to the realization.
It helps to have people remind me to think about things differently especially when things seem dire. That and listening to music and writing are my go-tos.
