Food Banks - don't give food to them

Instead give them money. It's way cheaper and more economical.

When you give food to the food banks, they have to inspect it, store it, organize it, wait for some one, and then give it to those in need.

The amount of work that goes into is truly tremendous.

When you give money to the food bank directly, they can actually negotiate better offers with retailers to buy cheaper food.

Most corporates want to be socially responsible and one of they ways they do it through things they already know how too.

A great example of that is a grocery store providing subsidized canned food items. However, to make sure it is beneficial on the both sides, the grocery store needs to meet a certain minimum. This is why giving money to food banks directly is more helpful.

Also, if they have money they can buy fresh produce for those in need which is healthier than just canned food all the time.

At the end of the day, the more you want to buy of something the cheaper you can make them for.

So next time you see collection of food for food banks think about it and evaluate. Where is the food going to and is it better to donate money instead of food?
