Everyone has Something to Share

About two years ago I was sitting at a conference listening to a developer talk about an engineering adventure they had been on. I don't remember the exact content of their presentation, but I remember what they said near the end.

"You don't have to be an expert to say something of value, you just have to have had an experience which others might also be struggling to go through."

I found this extremely insightful and very relevant to how many companies operate today, especially smaller companies. Things change very quickly, and it is challenging to find stories through traditional means about what you are going through. Books can be helpful, but books take time to write.

I learned a lot from what others have been kind enough to share, and I want to give back to the broader community by sharing the stories of leading teams, launching products, learning to code, getting fired, getting hired, bootstrapping, sunsetting, growing organizations, and many more. My hope in sharing is that someone finds a nugget of insight that helps them make a better decision, find clarity or just get through their day a little easier.

After editing, I was seven words short.
