End of days

Published on Aug 29, 2020

What an interesting week. If spending my fourth week in stage four lockdown wasn't enough, other happenings have made it feel like the end of days was occurring.

The week started with a cyber attack that crashed our whole system at work. By the end of the week, the IT guys had recovered some systems and services, but, we were a long way out from being out of the woods. By the end of the week, my laptop was quarantined from the network, and I had to shut it down.

As I wrote yesterday, a storm plunged us into darkness overnight, no power. The storm also damaged water infrastructure, and hundreds of thousands of people, including our household, have been told to boil their water after infected water entered the water supply system.

As expected, there was a rush on bottled water, and soon the supermarket shelves were bare. I admit to being part of the panicking throng that stripped the shelves. Maybe there is something to learn from the doomsday preppers.

I don't mind saying that I am feeling a little weary of my current life. Pandemic lockdown, cyber attack, storms and contaminated water, are starting to wear me down.

With little on the horizon to look forward to, no wonder it feels like the end of days.
