And it's not even over!
I am in love with the sheer beauty and incredible diversity of America's south west. Today we drove from Bryce Canyon to Lake Powell in Arizona. Along the way we drove through lush, verdant valleys and green pastures into amazing red rock canyons and eventually across Lake Powell into Page, AZ.
Words and photographs simply cannot do these landscapes justice. It is so raw and untouched, so harsh and barely habitable, and yet so majestic and incredibly enriching for the soul. I had the biggest smile on my face all day.
When we arrived in Page the first thing we did was head straight down to the Lake's edge and go for a swim. The water is piercingly blue; it seriously looks fake, like right out of a postcard. The temperature was super fresh and invigorating. We hiked through the desert rock for about twenty minutes and found a place all to ourselves. It felt like I was right back at home at the beach.
In the afternoon we went on a sightseeing tour of Antelope Canyon. While it was incredibly touristy and quite busy, I still highly recommend it! We got some amazzzzzing photos and learned a great deal about how these canyons are formed. During the monsoon season water comes gushing down the riverbeds and storms through the canyon reaching heights over 30 feet! It's really hard to imagine when you're walking right through it and there's not a drop of water in sight.
Tomorrow we are off to the Grand Canyon! I'm really looking forward to doing a hike along the South Rim and taking plenty of photos along the way ?
