Appreciation

I have been a bit glum with my writing this week, and it's time to be a little more upbeat.

My daily meditation theme at the moment is appreciation, and one of the questions that it has prompted me to ask myself is: "Who or what do I appreciate the most?"

Appreciation is the recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something. There are so many things I am appreciative of, where do I start in answering this question?

My family quickly come to mind. My wife and daughters sit right at the top of the list of things I appreciate. One of my greatest pleasures is spending time with my family.

I am fortunate to be wealthy enough to afford what I need, as well as what I desire. I have a well-paid job, a beautiful house to live in, and the means to pursue my interests and hobbies. I never go without anything, and I have more than I really need.

I live in a safe place, able to move about freely (even in lockdown), and I enjoy a cosmopolitan lifestyle, which comes with a multicultural society full of great friends and superb food.

Appreciation is not just an acknowledgement of achievement or success, it is a sentiment that makes us human. To appreciate the little things in life and count your blessings along the way is the best way to live a fulfilling and complete life.
