Spending too many hours in front of a laptop is not healthy. Today is a good day to catch up on writing. The client work for myself has taken up much of my time as both projects near completion. Deciding to expand the Digital Marketing practice to include data visualization has grown the client base, but the work is time-consuming.
In both cases, both clients are taking data from Google Sheets and want visualizations of business performance in Google Data Studio. Google Data Studio is Google's answer to Tableau. The challenge is having the data feed into the solution and creating the right visualizations that tell the story.
As of today, both projects are 90% complete. The first client there will be a final call on Monday. The main concern is that the visualizations are done, but there is only a small amount of data that creates the time series. The second client on Wednesday we have a call to finalize and Thursday there will be a presentation to the support staff.
The lessons in both cases are that to grow the practice I had to get out of my comfort zone of using Google Data Studio. The majority of the clients I work with are using the tool for the website reporting and analysis that have Google Analytics implemented. It is a seamless connection with the data.
Additionally six weeks ago I had a job interview with a company that reached out to me. The opportunity aligns with everything I do know, and I know I can be happy working for the organization. After another follow up on Tuesday, I am under consideration for the position. It is a good feeling, but the realization is that they are taking their time.
