I haven't had caffeine in a week, and it feels great. No tea, no coffee, and no soda.

For a long time, a cup of coffee has been replacing most of my breakfasts. It wasn't healthy, and even though I was aware of it, it's only till two weeks ago I decided to put a stop to this habit. First, because my anxiety has been going through the roof lately, and second, because digestive problems started appearing. Diet is everything, and I can't afford to let this guilty pleasure prevent me from doing what I love most: creating.

It's not the first time I've tried, but I think I finally found what works for me. Except for the fact I've found very good reasons to stop, I also discovered a beverage I can substitute to my daily doses: chicory.

Chicory is quite mainstream in France, especially in the North, where people use to add it to their morning coffee. The roots are roasted and transformed into a powder. It tastes like coffee, without containing caffeine, so you can enjoy the health benefits of chicory without the drug-like effect.

I used to think I would eventually miss the feeling of alertness coffee brings, when in fact it was more about the feeling of having a hot beverage to wake myself up. After a week, I'm still as productive as I can be, and I sleep better. Additionally, doing more exercise definitely helps when I feel sluggish.

Coffee almost disgusts me now, so I guess there is no going back.
